Creativity and Fun in Your Pocket

What do you call a dentist who cleans an alligator’s teeth?

That’s a great question to ponder on a car trip or a plane ride or a lazy, rainy Saturday, and it’s just one of the many jokes and riddles found in Rob Elliot’s and Jonny Hawkin’s latest collaboration for kids:  Laugh Out Loud Pocket Doodles for Boys.  It is also available in pink, but in this household of four brothers, the blue edition is just right.

My youngest son has been the product tester, and I knew that it would be a hit when I found it on his pillow with a pencil in it.  He’s THAT guy — the one who runs to the mailbox for the magazine with jokes in it, so that he can be the first to tell them to us all.
And the second.
And the third.
So, what do you do with a regular joke book when all the jokes have been told? Well, in this house, you try out the jokes one more time on the dog. DSCN0564 However,  Laugh Out Loud Pocket Doodles for Boys is not merely a joke book, but also a cartoon challenge.  With each page there is a partial drawing and a prompt from the artist to get the creative juices flowing.  Pocket size is just the right size, and it’s what all of my boys have preferred for notebooks and sketch pads.  It’s a manageable, un-intimidating space that is waiting for their great ideas.

Oh, and by the way, the answer to my son’s favorite joke?

  1. Hi Michele!

I’m your neighbor at Women with Intention 🙂 This book sounds like a good joke book I would love to get our son when he gets a little older. He’s only 3 now, so he may not appreciate it quite yet. Loved the part in this post about trying the jokes out on the dog…haha. I’m sure the dog is smiling on the inside 😊

  2. Sounds like a great book. My ten year old daughter and her friend are always telling jokes and some of them are really bad, if you know what I mean. Thanks for sharing at Good Morning Mondays. I appreciate the work you put into your reviews. Blessings

    1. Terri, I think they would enjoy the “pink” version of the book . . . and I know what you mean about the “bad” jokes. Sometimes the fact that they think they are being funny is “funnier” than the joke they’re telling! Thanks for reading, and for working to create community in Christ.
