Do you feel as if your spring forward has just plain sprung?

Do You Feel As If Your Spring Forward Is Just Plain Sprung?

Sunday Scripture

Did you remember to spring forward today?

Every year when we “spring forward” and go around the house setting all our clocks ahead one hour, I lament the disappearance of that hour of sleep or productivity. I know… we get the hour back in the fall, but, to tell the honest truth, some years my spring forward feels just plain sprung.

There’s comfort for us all from Isaiah 42:3 where God describes the character and heart of his Servant Son:

A bruised reed he will not break,

and a faintly burning wick he will not quench…”

Isaiah 42:3

Can I extend the metaphor?

A sprung spring he will not stretch.

It’s been a long winter and an even longer year.
Are you feeling bruised? Quenched? Sprung?

Here in the land of Easter blizzards and Mother’s Day snow flurries, the calendar is not our source of hope. We must reach deep into Truth where the Spirit of Encouragement lies. The Good News is that Jesus has brought this Old Testament promise into its New Testament fulfillment:

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Matthew 11:29

Today, you can spring forward with joy, remembering that our times are in God’s hands–all of them. Even that lost hour!

Holding you in the light,

Here in the land of Easter blizzards and Mother’s Day snow flurries, the calendar is not our source of hope. We must reach deep into Truth where the Spirit of Encouragement lies.

  1. Gosh, I had forgotten that it was ‘spring forward’ day! I haven’t been paying attention to the news! I’m always a bit off for a few days. But yes, our time is in God’s hands!

  2. Like how you remind that all our hours are in His hands. No worries, somehow we do catch up, however, my furbaby Razzy gets confused since I keep the feeding time for him the same so he doesn’t like being an hour off. Have a great week.

  3. I always look forward to “springing forward” because it gives me hope. Spring brings forth everything new and alive, the bright light, longer days, and the warmth of the sun!!

  4. Praise God our calendar {or anything else we might gaze at} is not our source of hope! We’d be in touch shape right about now without His steadying hand, His loving heart, His bountiful promises.

  5. Amen! That’s something this year has taught me/us – there is no reliable source of hope outside of Christ! I love your reminder about the sprung spring. LOL That will stick in my head for awhile – thank you for sharing that comfort and encouragement!

  6. Michele, this morning I saw an Instagram post that wondered why we are complaining about losing and hour when we just lost a whole year. I don’t really see it that way myself, but it did put my angst about having to get up an hour earlier in perspective. 🙂 It’s always good to be reminded that all our days–and hours–are in God’s hands.

  7. Every year there are fewer and fewer clocks we have to manually reset! They are all automatic now. I believe many of us are feeling sprung, bruised, and faintly burning these days of late winter and late (I hope) Covid pandemic. All of our hours belong to God, however. This is hopeful!

  8. I hate losing that hour, too. It helped this year that we helped my son move Saturday and crashed pretty early that evening. Even though we don’t usually have blizzards in May, I love the thought that the “calendar is not our source of hope. We must reach deep into Truth where the Spirit of Encouragement lies.”

  9. I can relate! I feel like my spring is sprung, too, and we’ve just had a massive blizzard even for here in the land of late spring snow storms! So I appreciate your encouraging verses from Scripture! Some of my favorites!

  10. I had to have a little chuckle to myself because just for a second, I thought I had completely missed the clock change! In the UK it isn’t until the end of March that this happens. And yes, I do miss that hour for the first few days. Thank you for joining us for the #mischiefandmemories linky.

  11. Yes, our time is in His Hands, always. I enjoy this time of spring and the lengthy daylight. I will confess that I went to bed, one night this week, while it was still light outside 🙂 I can’t handle the change like I used to. Thanks for linking up.

  13. Strangely, as we have sprung forward this week, it has really battered me physically (I have been so exhausted all week long), but the promise of Spring ‘s arrival has come with the lost hour and that has brought me more hope than anything else lately! Thanks for always sharing such inspirational messages!

  15. The clocks haven’t change in the UK yet but I’m not looking forward to it and never do! The adjustment to the kids’ routines etc always seems such a fuss and one less hour of sleep for parents is cruel! Plus trying to change all the clocks, one is always missed, urgh… Thanks for linking up with #MischiefAndMemories
