I keep hearing this statistic, and it’s like a pebble in my shoe: Regular Scripture reading is the most consistent factor contributing to spiritual health. It ranked higher than anything else, and it makes abundant sense when we realize that God has promised to speak to the believing heart through his Word.

With that in mind, I’ve created a collection of twenty devotionals for the upcoming season of Lent and Easter. This year, Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent) is on March 5. That’s less than two weeks away!
This Lenten season I invite you to Come Close to the Story. In your busy life, remember that Easter is on its way. Affirm your belief in resurrection power, and then admit that without a death, there would be no resurrection.
In Come Close to the Story, the devotionals are numbered, but NOT dated, so there’s no rush and no pressure to engage in wild catch-up reading. I have designated readings for Ash Wednesday and the high points of Holy Week and included an extra reading for the Monday after Easter, but otherwise, whatever day you happen to be reading a devotional is the day God the Holy Spirit ordained that you should be receiving its truth.
Each entry begins with a Scripture passage with a clickable link. If you are short on time, I urge you to read God’s Words and skip mine!
Click on the button below to download your copy of Come Close to the Story.
I’ve kept the format simple for those who prefer a printed form, but I also added clickable links for the Scripture passages. May you sense God’s nearness throughout the Lenten season as you Come Close to the Story of his great love for you.
“He who did not spare his own Son but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not, with him, also freely give us all things.” (Romans 8:32)

I’m convinced that a lot of our striving and much of our discontent comes from looking in the wrong places for what only God can provide—and we get God by meeting him where he promises to be found.
