Have You Ever Been Inspired to Praise God for His Creativity?

The woods behind my house is waking up. Sprigs of green are shooting their way up through last year’s matted carpet, and swollen buds hint that my view is about to change from grey to vibrant. I never tire of this transition from death to life.

God has crafted an infinitely varied range of greens from pale honeysuckle leaflets to emerald meadow grass and the deep tone of delicate pine needles. All creation shouts his goodness and love, expressed in his infinite creativity. Psalm 92 offers words to carry with me on dew-soaked morning walks and a praise prompt for chill evenings on the trail with my lazy dog:

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning and your faithfulness by night.”

Psalm 92:1-2

It’s almost daffodil season here on the hill, but daisies can’t be far behind, and I’m challenged by G.K. Chesterton’s ponderings on our daisy-making God:

It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike;
it may be that God makes each daisy separately, but has never tired of making them.”

God never tires of doing good!
May we never tire of giving thanks to him!

  3. Yes, his creativity even in how the storms arrange, but I so love the beautiful warm and landscape dotted with beauty that he creates. Winter scenes are like beautiful paintings. It’s so easy to thank him for the beautiful warm days, but I do try to remember to thank Him for the rains that the earth needs. Have a great week.

  4. Yes!!! We moved to a little farm last fall.. and have been working on the insides all winter. Now it is time to head outside. I am discovering little gifts all over! Spring bulbs blooming here and there… walks around the field showing new life on every twig. Thanking Him for the beauty He has created for US!!

  9. I sure do – especially in Spring. We have a short time when the hills are green (so much drought) and they were today! Also, I’ve loved those verses in Psalms for years. I call it God’s parenthensis to my day. love you, M. S.

  10. Many of my days are filled with praising Him – so much so that I forget to pray! I’ve often wondered if this is wrong, but you know, He just fills my heart with praise for Him – even in pain. How strange….but lovely. Thank you for such a lovely post.

  11. Every season contains something praise-worthy to our Father! The detail of how the ice encased the branches in our winter storms this year – just WOW. I love how in Spring nature tells the story of rebirth, of new life – and the dogwood tells the story of the crucifixion! There’s so much rejoicing in Spring – it’s like all things that grow are practically shouting praise! Michelle, I’m so excited for your opportunity to write on parenting boys!   14. I LOVE the Chesterton quote and daisies are a favorite flower of mine! It is definitely good to praise God and give thanks to him, and with all his creativity and goodness on display around us, we should never run out of things to thank and praise him for.

  16. April is the perfect time of year to be reminded to praise God for his creativity. My grandson and I were turning over rocks in the woods yesterday when we came across a bright orange-red salamander with black spots. Surely a sign of a God with an impressive imagination!

  18. I love to watch the greening of the landscape over the weeks of spring, starting with the grass, then the shrubbery, and finally the tallest trees. It’s a symphony of green building up to a grand, lush crescendo!

  22. Your words remind me of a book I read long ago called, ‘God Must Like Dandelions Because He Made So Many’ (or something like that).
    Yes, He certainly amazes me in my garden with His creations and I have to just say, ‘You do good work, God!’

  25. I was just thinking about this today on our walk, Michele! I am blown away by the beauty God created, and also how each thing supports another (or others). For example the beautiful blossom I admire is nourishing the bees and birds. The fallen tree is home to a whole mini ecosystem supporting microorganisms and bugs. It goes on and on. It is so beautiful to witness and reminds us of how powerful the universe is and how much God does know how to create beauty!   28. Seeing the beauty of the natural world often inspires me to praise God. Spring is a particularly beautiful time of year but there is always something in every season which stops me in my tracks and makes me realise the beauty of creation anew. #PoCoLo

  30. We go on walks every day that the weather allows and I’m always amazed at the different colors, shapes, and textures we see in nature. It’s especially interesting watching my kids as they observe things. Everything is so amazing to them! It reminds me to take it all in and be appreciative of God’s creativity, too.

  31. Beautiful, Michele! I was outside working in my flowerbeds this morning and it is a sheer delight to see all the little shoots poking through the dead leaves. The daffodils are done here, but the creeping phlox is blooming, along with the lilacs and redbuds. I love the fresh newness of spring … when God wakes up the earth once again.

  33. As an art teacher, I love how you mentioned all those varied spring greens! Spring is Maine after the long cold, gray winter is so welcome! and spring always reminds me of God’s creativity and that we can depend on Him completely. Spring does come after winter; Eternal life does come after death!
