I’ve heard it many times and from the most unexpected sources:
“I try to read the Bible, but . . . it doesn’t seem to say anything to me. I don’t understand what I’m reading. It doesn’t help me, so I end up quitting . . “
Set this response beside David’s from Psalm 119:
Your testimonies are wonderful;
Therefore my soul keeps them.
The entrance of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.I opened my mouth and panted,
For I longed for Your commandments. (Psalm 119:129-131)
If the goal of life is Psalm 119-zeal, what are the pre-requisites for getting there?
I am addressing this question at The Perennial Gen this week, particularly as it relates to relevance. Timeless truth imparts bullet-proof and agile relevance to the believer who embraces scripture as the main message of her life.

Boy, relevance has all kinds of meanings in our current climate doesn’t it. But something we definitely think about as writers. And I think about in the culture as biblical truth is being dismantled. Thanks for writing about this.

Yes! The very source that keeps us relevant is often discounted as out of date or just plain judgmental. No wonder our culture is in the trouble it’s in!

I’m reading another of Gordon Korman’s books right now with a class of 6th graders. I think it’s title is The Island and it’s got three books in the series. Only just beginning, but so intriguing!

I think relevance is a really important thing to consider. Society changes but human nature and God’s plan does not. Thanks for linking up with #MischiefAndMemories
